On Friday, February 2, 1973, a new TV show made it's debut to millions of music lovers. The show was "Midnight Special" and it gave fans of rock and soul a chance to see the top acts of the day performing their hits 'live' (for the most part) instead of the canned, lip-sync tracks that were the regular bill of fare.

'Midnight Special' was a Friday night ritual with me, as was 'Saturday Night Live' was a must watch for years.

I thought I'd compile a few performances from 'Midnight Special' just to relive those great days. I hope you enjoy these clips.

I was living in Dallas when this song was riding the charts. I loved it the first time I heard it. Here's Redbone and "Come and Get Your Love"

Next up --  America from 1975 performing their #1 hit 'Sister Golden Hair'

In June of 1973, Seals and Crofts hit #6 with 'Diamond Girl.'

Johnny Nash was a native of Houston, Texas and had been a singer and actor well before his chart success in the 70's. Here he is doing a great job on 'I Can See Clearly Now' form 1972.

Finally, an incredible performance of Gladys Knight and the Pips and 'Neither One of Us' from the very first 'Midnight Special.'
