In a press release from the American Red Cross (yes, it may surprise you to learn I am a member of the media, and get official press releases everyday on a variety of topics)

Anyway, even though we're getting some thundershowers today and tomorrow, the Red Cross wants to remind you that it's never too early to start prepping for the really big events.  Like, hurricane season starts around here in only two months.

Two Good Springtime Definitions to Know

Watches and Warnings!

1. Severe Thunderstorm Watch - Severe thunderstorms are possible within the watch area, stay informed and be ready to act if a warning like this is issued. During a Watch it may still be sunny at your house.

2. Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Severe weather has been reported by spotters or indicated on radar.  Warnings indicate immediate danger to life and property.

You may also want to take this relatively calm period to start re-stocking up on canned goods, bottled water, make sure your flashlight batteries are good and start thinking about stocking up on your meds you take now, so that by actual hurricane season you can have an extra two to four week supply on hand in a worst case event like having to evacuate your home.

Oh yeah, one last thought - during a lightning storm, stay away from your phone and don't take a bath or shower.  If lightning hits your house while you're bathing, the juice can travel across the metal pipes to the scene of your final soapy moments.
