Pope Excommunicates the Mafia

Wow! Talk about mass excommunications!

Pope Francis has declared that 'all mobsters' are excommunicated !

Back in January, 3 year-old Nicola Campolongo was shot, along with one of his grandfathers and the grandfather's girlfriend. That brutal attack has been  blamed on drug turf wars in the nearby town of Cassano all'Jonio. The attackers also torched the car with all three victims inside.

This weekend, Pope Francis went to the region known as Calabria, long considered to be a hotbed of mob activity, to meet with the slain boy's father who, along with the boy's mother is in jail for drug trafficking.

During part of an address to the huge crowd of people, the Pope stated that:

"Those who go down the evil path, as the Mafiosi do, are not in communion with God. They are excommunicated,"

 

The Cosa Nostra based Ndrangheta, which is based in Calabria, is well known as a global drug trafficking syndicate. The organization also controls local businesses and some public works as well.
