Pets ARE Family Members!

Americans have always had interesting relationships with their pets – whether that pet is a cat, dog, parakeet or something else. The pet industry is thriving, and for good reason – 62% of Americans have a pet. Among pet owners, 69% have a dog, 51% have a cat, 11% have a fish, 7% have a bird and 8% have some other type of pet, according to a new Harris Poll. Other findings:

91% of pet owners say they consider their pet to be a member of their family.

57% say they frequently let their pet sleep in the bed with them, while only 23% say they never do.

33% of pet owners frequently purchase holiday presents for their pet, while 27% occasionally do so; 20% frequently buy their pets birthday presents.

Some respondents stated that their pets  had their own chairs and full sized human beds!
