A 8822 year old Dequincy man lost his life when a train hit his truck earlier this week. Operation Lifesaver is all about preventing this kind of tragedy. Forty-two drivers will be much more careful at railroad crossings after yesterday. Louisiana state police issued them citations as part of Operation Lifesaver.

Louisiana State Police Troop D staked out the Kansas City Southern railroad crossing on Highway 171 in DeRidder yesterday. They were looking for drivers who ignored railroad crossing warning signals. Other law enforcement agencies had officers stationed along the railroad right of way watching fro crossing and trespasser violations. Failure to obey railroad warnings could result in up to a two hundred dollar fine or up to 30 days in jail. The fine for racing a train is $1,000! The result of losing the race is much worse.
