Yes, it's August in Southwest Louisiana and it's hot. that's pretty much part of life here, but, for many of us, escaping the heat is just a matter of walking to the thermostat and cooling things off. Everyone is not that fortunate.

Extremes in temperature are particularly dangerous for the very young and very old. Lucky, the Calcasieu Council on Aging (CCOA) has a solution.

Responding to the high temperatures this week, the Calcasieu Council on Aging is opening several cooling stations for residents.

Those cooling stations will provide air-conditioned rooms for those dealing with the heat, especially for senior citizens.

Those locations include the Allen August Multi-Purpose Annex, the Lake Charles Senior Center and the CCOA Complex in Lake Charles, along with senior centers in Vinton, Sulphur, Westlake, Moss Bluff and Iowa.

The cooling centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

For more information, call the CCOA at 474-2583.
