A mom and her two kids were killed this morning in a 1st Avenue house fire. The single story duplex fire happened around 7 a.m. this morning.

Lake Charles firefighters arrived to  find heavy smoke billowing from the home.According to the Lake Charles Fire Department ... after the fire was brought under control, the bodies 29 year old Nina Williams and her two sons, 4 year old Darion Williams and 2 year old Mikoh Williams, were discovered. The fire is believed to have started in the living room and the bodies were found in a remote bedroom. The windows in the bedroom had been painted and nailed shut.

Nina Williams made the 911 call about the fire and was coughing uncontrollably. The press release indicates preliminary findings are that the three died as a result of high levels of carbon monoxide associated with smoke inhalation.  There were no functioning smoke alarms found in the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
