I've lived in Moss Bluff almost my whole life. And yes, eating is one of my favorite pastimes. So it just makes sense that I'd share my favorite places to break bread in my hometown.

Well...there was that time I lived in Westlake for a few years, but we won't talk about that. I graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1998, so the West Fork rivalry is still burning in the depths of my soul!

Moving on...

Okay, without further ado, these are my top 5 favorite restaurants in Moss Bluff ranked by my taste buds.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Peto's Deli
  • Brown Bag Cafe
  • Fire And Ice

5. Los Ponchos

The thing that lured me originally to this restaurant was location. It's extremely close to my house. Plus, as a family, I would have to say that Mexican is collectively the most likely choice that we can agree on. The staff has always been nice and the wait times for food are short. We went last Sunday and it was packed and we had all our plates on the table before we knew it.

To me, the salsa at a Mexican restaurant sets up your whole dining experience.  Well, Los Ponchos has a very solid salsa and everything I have tried on the menu from burritos, enchiladas, and the fajitas have been well seasoned and tasted good.

4. Great Wall

Let me start off by saying I could eat Chinese food every day of the week and twice on Sunday and not get tired of it. The staff at the Great Wall are always very nice and the food is really good at a great value. They give you tons of food, too. I'm a big dude, and even I have to get a to-go box. If you ask them to make it spicy for you they will, which is always a plus in my book.

I usually go with the steak and peppers, spicy of course, and it's phenomenal. The way they cook their white rice so perfectly that elevates every dish I have there from General Tso chicken to everything in-between.

One of the measuring sticks for me when it comes to a Chinese restaurant is the quality of the egg roll. The Great Wall passes the taste bud test with flying colors!

3. Southern Spice

You're probably familiar with this restaurant from its sister location in Lake Charles. The first thing that I love about this restaurant is that there is a lot of room. You don't feel like you are all up on the people at the next table. Next is the staff, who are always friendly and smiling. I guess that seems to be a theme here on the list. I gotta feel welcomed.

My go-to is the hamburger steak, drenched in gravy with sauteed onions and mushrooms. They also have daily plate lunch specials for a great value. and no matter what you get it's, a big helping of food.

2. Fox's Pizza Den

I mean, come on, it's PIZZA! But they do some much more at this restaurant. From salads to hoagies, they have something for everyone. And you guessed it, the employees are very nice.

One of my favorite dishes is the Italian wedgie. I know that just gave you a mental picture, but believe me, it's awesome! It consists of baked ham, hard salami, cotto salami, melted Fox’s cheese blend, onions, lettuce, tomato and gourmet Italian dressing on a pizza crust sandwich bread. The dressing really brings it to the next level.

Everything is fresh and tastes extremely close to homemade.

1. Kjun Boo's

K Boo's, as I affectionately call it, is my #1 favorite restaurant in Moss Bluff. You can get anything you want here. Steaks, hamburgers, seafood, and much more! It's a one-stop shop if you're hungry.

And yes, to keep the theme going, the staff has always been very nice and welcoming to us. The tables are well spaced out, so you don't feel cramped while you are eating, or that other people are listening in on your conversations (even though they might very well be).

My usual is the seafood platter. It's SWLA, of course my favorite cuisine is gonna be deep fried seafood! I love their fried catfish is good with their homemade tartar sauce with a little bit of Tabasco (that I add) in it. The fried oysters are to die for, and the stuffed shrimp are LEGIT! The potato all the way with heaps of butter? Yes, please!

Plus, if your restaurant has an all-you-can-eat salad bar, I'll immediately give your place three extra cool points!

All around, if you're looking for a restaurant where everyone in the family can find something on the menu, short waiting time, and a family-friendly atmosphere, then Kjun Boo's is for you!
