McNeese Travels To Northwestern State
The Cowboys head to Natchitoches this evening to play the Northwestern State Demons. The Cowboys have lost their last 2 and will enter the game with a 2-3 record in the Southland Conference and a 3-4 mark overall. The Demons have struggled this season winning only once in 6 games. They are 0-4 in the SLC. The Cowboys fell to Central Arkansas last week 35-0 while the Demons gave up 14 in the final 2 minutes to lose at Lamar 32-31.
This is the longest and oldest series in McNeese football history. These 2 teams will be meeting for the 66th time. The series began back in 1951. The Cowboys hold a 44-20-1 edge in the series including a current 12 game winning streak. McNeese won last year in Lake Charles 47-27. The last Demon win came back in 2004. The Pokes have won 5 straight at Turpin Stadium.
QB James Tabary continues to lead the Cowboy offense. The sophomore quarterback has completed 149 of 256 passes for 1785 yards and 12 touchdowns. Ryan Ross is the leading rusher with 416 yards on 94 carries and 3 TDs. Ross also is the leading receiver with 25 catches. Darious Crawley has 23 catches for 403 yards and 5 TDs. Kent Shelby's has now caught a pass in 20 straight games. On defense, Ashari Goins and Damien Morgan lead the team in tackles.
The Demons are lead by a trio of running backs, De'Mard Llorens, Chris Jones, and Ronald Green. Each has run the ball for over 350 yards. NSU averages 209 yards rushing per game. Former La-Lafayette QB Brooks Haack has thrown the ball 114 times completing 64 for 660 yards and 5 TDs. The Demons will be celebrating homecoming tonight vs the Cowboys.
