McNeese senior right-handed pitcher Kaleb Fontenot was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 21st round, (639) overall in the 2016 MLB Draft.

Fontenot, a native of Ville Platte, finished his career with a 2.55 ERA along with 19 career victories, three complete game shutouts, one save and 252 strikeouts. He ranks eighth all-time in career wins and third in strikeouts.

Fontenot becomes the 49th player in McNeese history to be drafted. The most recent was Andrew Guillotte in 2015, who was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 32nd round.
