An online prank against McDonald’s has the fast food chain up in arms. Over the weekend, a photograph was circulated online of a sign telling customers that African-Americans would be charged $1.50 extra “as an insurance measure due in part to a recent string of robberies.” The image was printed on what looks to be an official McDonald’s memo posted in the window of a restaurant. It's all a hoax.

Many Internet users retweeted the photo, using the words “Seriously McDonald’s,” to express their disapproval. McDonald’s sent a message via Twitter Saturday saying the picture was a “senseless & ignorant hoax. McD’s values ALL our customers. Diversity runs deep in our culture on both sides of the counter.” Yet, Twitter users continued to send the fictitious photo out with the message “Seriously McDonald’s.” So many, in fact, that “Seriously McDonald’s” began trending over the weekend. It’s not clear who created the hoax image. It appears to have first showed up on the popular 4chan message board and it was posted last year on an anti-McDonald’s blog.

How are we sure it's a fake? The phone number on the sign in the pitcture in question is not even a McDonald's phone number...Nope, it belongs to a KFC!!!
