LSU Halts All Greek Activity, Investigates Phi Delta Theta Pledge Death As Possible Hazing Incident

LSU is investigating the “untimely” death of an 18-year-old student.

UPDATE: WBRZ is reporting the East Baton Rouge Coroner has released the autopsy of Maxwell Gruver. Read the initial autopsy findings here.

According to WBRZ, 18-year-old LSU student Max Gruver from Roswell, GA was pronounced dead at a local hospital after being taken there from the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity house on Wednesday night.

LSU Spokesperson Ernie Ballard says the university is investigating both the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the death of Gruver as a possible hazing incident. District Attorney Hilar Moore and local law enforcement were spotted on the scene Thursday as LSU police investigated.

As of now, all Greek activities have been suspended as LSU President F. King Alexander announced the university was mourning the loss of Gruver but sternly denounced hazing saying it had no place on his campus.

Hazing is dangerous, irresponsible and unacceptable. It will not be tolerated at LSU

East Baton Rouge coroner Beau Clark says he will be performing an autopsy today (9/15) and we will update this story with the results and any new information when available.
