LSU Announces Admission Policy Changes
Incoming freshmen who hope to become part of the LSU Tiger family beginning in 2019 will need to review some changes the university has made in its admission policy. Officials with LSU announced the changes this week in response to record applications at the state's flagship institution of higher learning.
Among the most noticeable changes to the policy is the need for prospective freshmen to include a letter of recommendation with their application. Beginning in the Summer of 2019 a letter from a counselor, teacher, advisor, or administrator will be necessary to complete the application process.
The university notified admission counselors at the state's high schools earlier this summer about the change in policy so your school's counselor should be aware of the policy.
Deadlines for freshmen to apply have also been adjusted for the summer and fall admissions in 2019. The deadline for priority application has now been moved to December 1 and the deadline for regular application has been adjusted to February 1. Students may begin applying as early as the first of August but officials with LSU say enrollment decisions will not be made before October 15th.
LSU will also be transitioning in the next several weeks to what is known as the Common Application. This application will allow a student to seek enrollment in several different colleges with a single application. Students must also have at least a 3.0 GPA and a composite score of 22 or more on the ACT.
The changes in the application process were deemed necessary because of the tremendous upsurge in applicants. The admissions office reported 24,300 applications were made to LSU's incoming freshman class. That's up from 17,817 applications that were received a year earlier.
