Louisiana Has Nation’s Highest Percentage of Unwed Moms

Mother's Day is right around the corner and new statistics show more moms raising kids alone. Louisiana has the highest rate of single moms in the nation.

The national average of children born to unwed mothers is 36% and in Louisiana it is 48.7%. Almost half of the children born in Louisiana are born to unwed mothers according to figures from the U. S.Census Bureau.

The report also shows that about one third of unwed mothers have less education than a high school degree; but over half of these mothers make more than #25,000 a year. A larger majority of these women make over $50,000 annually than make under $15,000 annually.

No matter what their income is ... being a mom is tough. Moms sacrifice a lot for their kids so don't forget mom on May 12th.
