Each morning, Heather and I announce local birthdays and anniversaries and we're always impressed when anyone has managed to stay together for more than about 25 years.

The picture is not the couple in the story, but is a picture of the wedding of movie star Jeanette McDonald from 1932.

This couple has nearly quadrupled that number! They were married on January 26, 1931 and are still together!

This is an official release from Governor Bobby Jindal's office:

– Today, Governor Bobby Jindal held a reception at the Governor’s Mansion to honor Louisiana’s longest married couples. Ten couples were honored, with the longest married couple being Norman and Norma Burmah of Marksville, who have been married since January 26, 1931.

Governor Jindal said, “Supriya and I were honored to spend time with these couples. The couples are an example to all of us about the incredible institution of marriage.”

Louisiana’s longest married couple – Norman and Norma Burmah – was married in 1931. Norman is 102 years old and Norma is 99 years old. They have two daughters, six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The Burmahs are members of the Louisiana Family Forum’s (LFF) Marriage Hall of Fame.

1931! Let's put that in perspective. Here's what was happening in 1931-

Herbert Hoover was president!

Bread: .08 /loaf

Milk: 50 cents a gallon

New Car; $530

House $7,000

They weathered all that! Just amazing
