Thanks to Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites, we’re more connected to one another than ever before.  So how could we possibly be lonely? Ironically enough, multiple studies show that our constant use of these internet tools has actually made us more isolated and detached.  The ever-growing crop of social networking sites are supposed to connect people to one another.  But they kind of backfired- you've seen them in restaurants and other places; people  staring at computer or mobile phone screens (alone) instead of getting out and actually socializing, face-to-face.  And research has shown that loneliness can lead to mental and physical illness.
