For the most part, rockers play guitar but they are not identified by their instruments. I don't think anybody really notices what kind of guitar John Mellencamp (for example) plays.  Few people know what kind of guitar is played by Bruce Springsteen.

Now, the featured picture on our homepage that brought you to this article may look like just another Gibson guitar..but what if I told you that's it's name is "Lucille"...B.B. King, right? Still, if I didn't tell you the guitar's name (well, or if you couldn't read the name on the guitar) it could have been just another Gibson...Well, just another amazingly great Gibson!
