It's that wonderful time of year when Spring is in the air and it's time to run through the grass barefoot, or maybe party by the pool. But after the long winter of closed-toe shoes and heavy socks, there could be an embarrassing problem with dry, cracked heels. And sometimes, there's just the problem of vitamin deficiencies.

When we are lacking magnesium, omega 3 or zinc, our skin suffers. It's time to get out the detox foot soaks and the foot salve, which can be rather pricey. The last time I bought salve for my feet, it was about $20. So i searched the internet for a really effective and cheap replacement. (See below)

Take these steps to begin the healing process on those hurting heels: 1) exfoliate 2) use detox foot soak 3) apply salve at bedtime and cover feet with socks overnight

So here's a wonderful salve I discovered on wellnessmama.com to help with the heels.

1/4 cup shea butter

1/4 cup magnesium oil

3 tablespoons beeswax

1/4 cup coconut oil

10 drops of peppermint oil

10 drops oregano essential oil (not to be used during pregnancy or on kids)

Pour 2 T. boiling water into magnesium oil or flakes and stir until it dissolves and becomes thick.  set aside.

Place a qt. jar inside a pan with about 1" water.  combine the coconut oil, beeswax and shea butter and turn on medium heat.  when melted, remove from the water pan and let cool until it turns slightly opaque.  put into medium bowl.

Blend with a mixer on medium or use a hand blender.  slowly add magnesium mix to the oil mix while blending.  add drops of oregano and peppermint oil and whip until combined.

Refrigerate about 15 minutes and re-blend to get buttery consistency.  Store in fridge up to 2 months.
