In case you forgot (and you better not have), today is Valentine’s Day This year, Americans are expected to spend about $126 per person on the holiday- which is 8.5% more than last year.  Jewelry purchases are likely to lead the spending spree, totaling more than $4 billion.  Sixty-five percent of all Valentine’s Day gifts will come in the form of a greeting card, 72 million of which will be purchased by parents.  But 82% of V-day card recipients will likely be disappointed- that’s how many people would prefer a gift in the form of an “experience” over an actual present.  Some lovers are in luck, though- Americans are expected to spend a collective $3.5 billion towards romantic Valentine’s dates.  Still, an estimated 15% of women don’t want to leave it up to chance, and will instead send themselves flowers today.
