The Louisiana Flood Recovery Task Force has OK’d Governor Edwards flood recovery proposal to spend $1.2 billion in federal funds from congress, with almost all of it going to homeowners that had damages during the March and August floods last year.

About 75% or $935 million will go to homeowners to repair and rebuild their homes, some money will go to businesses and agriculture.  Edwards earmarked $105 million specifically to reimburse state and local governments for their response costs, overtime, equipment and so on.

While Louisiana residents are still waiting on approval of an initial $435 million to be allocated, final approval of this plan is expected quickly from the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department before the state can actually start cutting checks.
