I'll never forget seeing the very first day of MTV. Of course, that station now appeals to those below the lowest common denominator, but when it was new and relevant, it was so much fun to watch.

I'm sure that, like me, you had favorite videos and you couldn't wait to see them over and over. Sure you could record them on you VCR (caveman recording), but it was fun to watch 'live'.

Here are my favorite MTV videos from the time before MTV turned to absolute dreck.

5. Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles

Pretty much everyone knows that this was the first video played on MTV. Love the video and the song. Besides, the radio 'star' has long outlived MTV.

4. Cry- Godley and Creme (AKA what was left of 10cc) I was a big 10cc fan. You couldn't really define what they did, but it was usually interesting. Godley and Creme were basically 10CC minus Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart. This is such a creative video

3. Thriller - Michael Jackson - What can I say? For one thing it was one of the few videos that had somewhat of a plot and it was just fun to watch

2. Don't Pay the Ferryman- Chris DeBurgh- I loved the somewhat eerie feel of the video on this one. the song wasn't a very big hit, but the video was.

1. Take on Me- A Ha - This video is generally considered to be the best of the video music era. Completely original from beginning to end and still fun to watch

I'll give an honorable mention to Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' - mainly because I'm a huge Cyndi Lauper fan. Best selling artist, brilliant person and a Tony Award winner!
