The jury in the trial of Jose Manuel Garcia-Guevara deliberated only an hour before returning a verdict of guilty for a heinous crime. The jury found Guevara-Garcia guilty of  second-degree murder, aggravated rape and aggravated burglary.

Sentencing will be handed down on February 20th, almost exactly 7 years after the tragic crime took place. Garcia-Guevara will, of course, be spending the rest of his life behind bars.

Back in February of 2008, Garcia-Guevara stabbed, raped and killed Wanda Barton at her residence just off Country Club Road in the presence of her then 4-year-old stepson.

The state rested its case Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday morning, the defense rested without calling any witnesses.

If you're wondering why this piece of work wasn't given the death penalty, it's because it was part of the extradition agreement with Mexico that the death penalty would not be sought in the case.
