If you live in DeRidder without a smoke detector – call the fire department. This is an outstanding program from the City, State and Red Cross, our kudos go out.

The DeRidder FD is making home fire prevention a priority, they’ll give you a smoke detector and even install it at no charge.  The two-year old project started off with a bang, but according to the chief, installations fell off last year.

The project is paid for in part by the FD and the State Fire Marshall’s Office in Baton Rouge.  Chief Harlow says the American Red Cross will also donate some detectors – and the department typically installs them on Friday’s and Saturdays time permitting.
