Sgt. James Anderson of State Police Troop D The Louisiana State Police Troop D has announced that, once again, they will be conducting a free child passenger safety seat inspection this Saturday. Here's your chance to make sure your child's safety seat is really safe.

This Saturday, certified child passenger safety seat technicians will be on hand at Southwest Beverage at 3860 Broad. The free inspections will start at 9 a.m. and run until noon. The technicians, in addition to making sure your child safety seat is not only installed correctly, but will check to make sure that the seat is really approved for safety.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to check the installation of your child's seat and will answer any questions you may have at no charge.

According to Sgt. Anderson:

"It is estimated at least 3 out of 4 child restraint systems are being misused. This free child passenger safety check event is a great opportunity for caregivers to ensure their child is in an age and weight appropriate child restraint and to have that child restraint checked and/or installed free of charge."

During the past 30 years, nearly 9,000 lives have been saved by the use of child restraints according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
