At one time, Mark Broussard was a priest here in the Lake Charles area and then everything went terribly wrong. Broussard was found guilty of two counts of aggravated rape and one count each of molesting a juvenile, oral sexual battery and one count of aggravated oral sexual battery. The charges for rape already carry a mandatory life sentence.

This past Friday, Judge David Ritchie passed sentence on the convicted priest and he handed down a deservedly stiff punishment including two life sentences for the two counts of rape plus, Broussard was also given an extra 50 years as part of his punishment for abusing alter boys back in the 80s and 90s.

According to a report on KPLC-TV, Judge Ritchie has said the he was "disgusted" by the fact that Broussard seemed to refuse to accept responsibility for his actions and that he even claimed that at least one of the young men victimized actually made the overtures.

Cynthia Killingsworth of the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office was prosecutor in the case.
