There's a stigma attached to even being accused of a crime. When someone is cleared of all charges, it seldom gets as much attention.

Former Oberlin Mayor, Rick Smith, was charged with criminal wrongdoing while in office.

He has been cleared of all charges.

In a statement to our friends at KPLC, Allen Parish District Attorney Todd Nesom said that the state police could not substantiate the charges of theft and malfeasance in office made against Smith.

Smith, resigned in January after he was accused of using town materials and resources in a subdivision he owns. While Smith did resign the office of mayor, he did state repeatedly that he was innocent of all charges against him.

Smith has been completely cleared of all wrongdoing and will face no more charges.
