Former McNeese President Dr. Robert Hebert Dies

Dr. Robert Hebert, who was President of McNeese from 1987 to 2010 has passed away. Hebert succeeded Jack Doland in 1987 as university president and was succeeded by Philip Williams in 2010.

Hebert died of a brain hemorrhage while vacationing in Italy with his family, said Candace Townsend, university spokesperson. Hebert came to McNeese in 1969 as an associate professor of history. He served as vice president of academic affairs from 1980 to 1987 and became the fifth president of McNeese in 1987. He served 23 years as president.

Hebert is survived by his wife, Lilly Ann, and sons, Dr. Gregory Hebert, Dr. William G. “Gerry” Hebert and Dr. Edward Hebert of Lake Charles, and Dr. Christopher Hebert of Lafayette.

Services to be held in Lake Charles are pending. Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Hebert served 23 years as president, retiring in 2010, according to a post on McNeese's website about his retirement.
