The first Captain Marvel reviews are here and they are overwhelmingly positive. Critics who saw Marvel’s latest blockbuster love Brie Larson, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, and the overall ’90s vibe. There was also one that we can’t reprint here that simply said “well, Thanos is f—cked.” There weren’t many complaints at all, but the negative comments mostly focused on the fact that it was “wobbly at times” and not what people expected from the commercials. (Sometimes that can be a good thing, of course.)

Here is a selection of the first tweet reviews of the film, ranging from “pure joy” to “overall pretty darn great”:

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

Captain Marvel opens in theaters on March 8. Full reviews of the movie will appear earlier that week.
