As Louisianans repair or rebuild their homes damaged by the August floods, FEMA announced that they will have mitigation specialists and advisers at Home Depot stores in Lafayette & East Baton Rouge Parish. These specialists will be available at the "information center" in each store, and will be providing free do-it-yourself information, tips and literature on how to make your home stronger and safer.

This free service is being put in place to help those homeowners, landlords and contractors making repairs themselves. FEMA advisers will be at the following Home Depot stores, Aug. 25 through Sept. 10, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily:

Lafayette Parish
1700 NE Evangeline Thruway
Lafayette, La. 70501

East Baton Rouge Parish
8181 Airline Hwy.
Baton Rouge, La. 70815

St. Tammany Parish
40 Park Place Drive
Covington, La. 70433

Take advantage of this valuable resource, as building codes have changed and newer materials have been developed to improve the stability of today's homes. Throughout the day, FEMA mitigation specialists will answer questions and provide proven methods to help home owners and contractors prevent or lessen damage from future disasters.

Free reference booklets will be available in both English and Spanish, so be sure to pick one up. For more info about how you can strengthen your property go to http://www.fema.gov/what-mitigation.
