On Tuesday, the Calcasieu Parish School Board meeting had a capacity crowd and ran on for about two and a half hours. As expected, the meeting was an emotional one as the topic of conversation was school consolidation. In other words, the closing of some schools.

What schools are on the chopping block?

Schools that are being considered for closure were; Reynaud Middle School, Ralph Wilson Elementary and John F. Kennedy.

By the time all was said and done, the board decided to move ahead with plans to consolidate Reynaud students to Oak Park and Molo and to delay action on Ralph Wilson and John Kennedy until November.

The proposed school closures and consolidations came about because back in December the board announced it was facing a $10 million budget shortfall for 2014-2015.

This subject will continue to plague the school board and area residents. We'll keep you posted on any new developments.
