Northwestern State scored the game's first 3 points, then McNeese scored the next 37 as the Cowboys finished up their home schedule with a 44-24 Southland Conference win over the Demons Saturday evening. The victory gives the Pokes an 8-2 record, 6-2 in the conference, and keeps their slim playoff hopes alive.

After falling behind 37-3, Northwestern State went on a 21-0 run in the second half to tighten up the game at 37-24. The Cowboys added a late touchdown to seal the win. NSU picked up 431 yards against the Cowboy's defense, but only 50 of those came on the ground. McNeese has the nation's number 1 defense against the run.
The Cowboys offense generated 478 yards of its own, 179 via the run.

McNeese will close out the regular season Saturday evening in Beaumont against the Lamar Cardinals. A win would give McNeese a 9-2 record, but that still may not be enough to get the Cowboys into the 24 team FCS playoffs. The Pokes are currently in 4th place in the SLC trailing Central Arkansas, Sam Houston State, and Nicholls State. Kickoff will be at 7.
