With August camp behind them, the McNeese Cowboys have begun to look toward the season opener on Saturday with the Tarleton State Texans. Head Coach Lance Guidry has named Arkansas State transfer James Tabary as the starting QB when the Pokes take the field on Saturday evening.

Saturday's game at Cowboy Stadium will be the first time the two schools have met on the football field. Tarleton State is a D2 school and a member of the Lone Star Conference. The Texans finished 3-7 in 2015 and are coached by Todd Whiten. This is coach Witten's second stint as head coach at the Stephenville, TX. school. He was the HC from 1996 till 2004. During that time, he was 45-23.

Whiiten is no stranger to the Cowboys. He is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin, and former head coach at Sam Houston State.

Kickoff is at 6 in Cowboy Stadium. You can hear the game on 92.9 The Lake and online at 929thelake.com beginning at 5 this Saturday evening.
