The McNeese Cowboys head west for a meeting with the University of the Incarnate Word this evening, hoping to get back on the winning track. McNeese has lost 2 in a row for the first time since the end of the 2014 season. The Cowboys are 1-2 and 0-1 in conference play after dropping their SLC opener 31-28 to SFA last Saturday night. The Cardinals are also 1-2 and 1-1 in the conference. They fell at Nicholls State last week 35-28.

On paper, it's hard to imagine that the Pokes have lost 2 of their first 3 games. The offense has out-gained their opponents 472-311 in total yardage. They have run 272 plays to 176, and have controlled the ball for 38 minutes per game to their opponent's 22 minutes. The Cowboys have turned the ball over 3 times, which isn't much, but they have come at very bad times and have resulted in points against them.

UIW is led by QB Trent Brittain. He has completed 47 of 95 pass attempts for 708 yards, 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. His favorite receiver has been Jordan Hicks, with 11 catches for 210 yards and 1 TD. Broderick Reeves is the leading rusher with 130 yards on 40 carries and 1 TD.

This will be the third meeting between the two schools. The Cowboys have won the previous two games, including a 43-6 win last year. The game will be played at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium on the UIW campus. Yes, the same Tom and Gayle Benson that own the New Orleans Saints!
