McNeese slugged it out the number 1 offense in the country last night, but fell to Sam Houston State 56-43 in Huntsville. The loss dropped the Cowboys to 5-5 on the season and 4-4 in the Southland Conference. The Bearkats should remain in the top spot in the FCS polls with a 9-0 record. They are now 7-0 in the SLC with a potential conference championship game at home with Central Arkansas coming in 2 weeks.

Sam Houston jumped out to a 14-0 lead, and led 28-9 at the half. The second half saw both teams run up and down the field. The Pokes outscored the Kats 34-26 in the last 2 quarters. Sam finished with 630 yards of offense to the Cowboys 574.

James Tabary completed 25 passes on 46 attempts for 357 yards and tied a school record with 5 touchdowns. He also set a pair of school records for most pass attempts and completions in a season. Justin Pratt rushed for 146 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Kent Shelby extended his game pass reception streak to 23 with a pair of TD receptions. Gunner Raborn added a field goal for the Cowboys.

McNeese will take the week off and then finish up the 2016 season at home with the Lamar Cardinals on the 19th. The Pokes will be gunning for their 13th straight winning season. McNeese has not finished below .500 since going 4-7 in 2004.
