Attention all area parents and guardians! The City of Lake Charles Recreation Department and Second Harvest Food Bank are teaming up to offer a wonderful FREE program. Mayor Nic Hunter happily announced that, starting Monday, October 2, 2017, nine community centers in the Lake Area will host “Kids Café.”

This is a new program that will offer FREE after-school meals, homework assistance, and other planned activities to students ages 17 and under. "Kids Café" will be open Monday through Thursday, from 3:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m all month long at the following community centers:

Bellard (formerly Hillcrest Comm. Center) - located at 2808 Hillcrest Drive
J. D. Clifton - located at 2415 E. Gieffers Street
College Oaks - located at 3518 Ernest Street
Columbus Circle - located at 3520 Greinwich Blvd.
Donald R. Stevens (formerly Goosport Comm. Center) - located at 1619 Cessford Street
Henry Heights - located at 801 E. School Street (from 4 to 6 p.m.)
Mike D. Lanza - located at 609 Sycamore Street
Wiley B McMillan - located at 343 Goos Street
Willie McCullor Landry (formerly Drew Park Comm. Center) - located at 416 Dr. Michael DeBakey Drive

Mayor Nic Hunter is happy the City of Lake Charles can offer this valuable program to area students. Hoping "Kids Café" will make a difference in the community he said:

“This program helps ensure that every child in our community has enough to eat and has the opportunity to do well in school.” Mayor Hunter continued, "It’s very exciting when we can partner with organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank to offer services to our residents that help educate and nourish our children.”
