As you make your list and check it twice before the big day arrives, you may want to take a look at this list we've put together of Christmas events happening in Lake Charles and the southwest Louisiana area. Oh, what fun it would be to take a break from the busy-ness of the season and enjoy any one of these with your friends or family!

Friday, Dec 16-- Welsh Christmas Parade & Gumbo Cook-off

Parade begins at 4PM, followed by the lighting of the Christmas Tree at City Hall and the cook-off, caroling and visits with Santa.

Thursday-Saturday, Dec 15-17-- Live Nativity at Lakewood Bible Fellowship in Lake Charles

Actors will portray the people in the nativity scene, and there will be real cows and donkeys as part of the re-enactment of the first Christmas. Children are welcome to pet them! Visitors can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies as they wander through "Bethlehem" from 6:30 until 8:30 each evening during this free event. The church is located at 2520 West Sale Street.

Sunday, Dec 18-- Jingle Jam at Prien Lake Park in Lake Charles

University United Methodist Church hosts this event for families, students and anyone who wants to enjoy music, a Christmas movie, and cocoa and cookies. Takes place from 6PM-8PM.

Friday-Sunday, Dec 16-18-- The Mines Theatre in Sulphur presents "Miracle on 34th Street"  (Call 337-215-1602 for more information)

Friday-Sunday, Dec 16-18-- Maplewood First Baptist Church in Sulphur presents "Shepherds & Kings Christmas Musical"

Admission is free to this production at the church located at 4501 Maplewood Drive. Call 337-625-5899 or visit maplewoodfbc.com for more information.

Friday-Sunday, Dec 16-18-- ACTS Theatre: Scrooge!

The Christmas classic will play at the One Reid Street Theatre at the corner of Reid and South Railroad Avenue. Call 337-433-2287 or visit actstheatre.com for more information.

Now-Dec 22 (Wednesday through Friday)-- Classic Toy Trains at Christmas

From 4PM until 8PM, you can watch toy trains run their rails in the window of the old Muller’s Department Store Window on Ryan Street in downtown Lake Charles. You can also see toys from the 1960's!

Now-Dec 27-- Gingerbread House Voting and Display in Sulphur

See homemade decorated gingerbread houses at the Creole Nature Trail Adventure Point at 2740 Ruth Street. Don't forget to vote for your favorite.

Now-Dec 31-- L'Auberge Lake Charles Gingerbread House Display

More beautiful, sweet, colorful confections! Marvel at them and take your picture in front of the festive displays.

 Now-Dec 30-- Christmas Card Workshop in Lake Charles

All ages are welcome to visit the Historic City Hall Arts & Humanities Cultural Center to make their own cards. The ones made by children will be delivered directly to the North Pole for Santa! Other Christmas Cards will be distributed by the Calcasieu Council on Aging Ombudsman Program.

Now-Dec 23-- Holiday Music Concerts at Prien Lake Mall Food Court

Local churches, school bands, and choirs will be performing for the public during the Christmas shopping season. Santa will also be in the Sears Court to visit with children through Christmas Eve.

Now-Dec 26-- Trees of Hope Charity Tree Decorating Contest at Delta Downs in Vinton

The winner will be announced on Friday, Dec 16, but the beautifully decorated trees will stay on display until the day after Christmas.
