Change of Venue Likely for Kevin Daigle

I guess just about everyone in this area is familiar with the accused killer of Trooper Steven Vincent and it's for that very reason that his defense team has requested a change of venue for their client. The way is now clear for that to happen and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office has withdrawn it's objection to the change of venue request.

It's not so much a matter of whether or not Daigle could get a fair trial in this case, the actual reason for the change is that prosecutors are looking to avoid an appeal of this case down the road. In the motion for the change of venue, the state said that it was out of an abundance of caution that the venue change request was made.

The ball is now in the court of Judge Guy Bradberry and it will be up to him whether or not to grant the change of venue. He will also be faced with deciding the location of the trial should he grant the request.

Daigle's defense team asked that the trial be moved outside this area saying there was no way he could get a fair trial here for various reasons including extensive publicity.
