It's time to clean up the beach again. This year’s nationwide Beach Sweep and Inland Waterway Cleanup  is coming up Saturday, September 17, from 8 a.m. to noon.

From 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., volunteers will collect trash, and from 11 a.m. to noon, Mayor Randy Roach will speak and give out this year's awards.

According to Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful volunteer coordinator, Mason Lindsay:

“Team Green is asking for volunteer groups, service clubs, and families who will commit to helping cleanup one of our area’s beaches or shorelines, in order to keep it beautiful and environmentally safe,”

In order to keep the event running and well organized, Team Green will hold a pre-event briefing in the first floor City Hall Council Chambers On Monday, September 12, at 1:00 p.m..  At that meeting, volunteers can pick up trash bags and reserve their cleanup locations. There will also be a short briefing on the day of the Beach Sweep at the civic center.

Waste Management will provide trash receptacles at:

  • Lake Charles Civic Center
  • I-10 beach
  • Prien Lake Park
  • North Ryan Street at River Road
  • McNeese parking lot off of Common Street
