Not a lot of surprises at the Globes last night. there were a few "underdog" winners, but there really was a wide field of very good movies for a change!

Here are the standouts:

The 70th annual Golden Globe Awards were handed out last night and the evening’s big winner was Les Misérables, which took home three awards, Best Musical/Comedy,  Best Actor, Hugh Jackman and Best Supporting Actress, Anne Hathaway.  On the serious side, Argo took home Best Drama, with Jessica Chastain nabbing Best Actress for Zero Dark Thirty and Daniel Day-Lewis winning Best Actor for Lincoln. Other movie winners included:   Jennifer Lawrence, Best Actress Musical/Comedy, Silver Linings Playbook; Christoph Waltz, Best Supporting Actor, Django Unchained; Ben Affleck, Best Director, Argo;  Brave, Best Animated Feature; Amour, Best Foreign Film and “Skyfall,” Best Song, which was written by Adele.

The Golden Globes also honor TV and  Homeland was the big winner, taking home three trophies including Best Drama, Best Actress, Claire Danes and  Best Actor, Damien Lewis. Girls took home the top honor of Best Comedy, while its star Lena Dunham won Best Comedy Actress and Don Cheadle won Best Comedy Actor for House of Lies. Another big winner of the evening was the HBO movie Game Change, which  took home three trophies - Best Mini-Series or Movie;  Best Actress, Julianne Moore and Best Supporting Actor, Ed Harris. Other TV winners included Kevin Costner, Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Movie, Hatfields & McCoys and Maggie Smith, Best Supporting Actress, Downton Abbey.
