The controversy against Common Core is really hitting hard at a grassroots level as over 700 gathered at Sam Houston gym to speak out about the heated subject.

The crowd was made up of mostly parents, but a few teachers were also in attendance as well as newly appointed Calcasieu School Superintendent Karl Bruchhaus.

One by one, angry parents and a few teachers took to the open mic to express concerns about the quality of education under Common Core.

Also taking part in the meeting was State Representative Brett Geymann who told the crowd that ,"Again, I proposed this last year. We just didn't have the momentum right here. Now that we have this, I think that the legislators are going to be listening.'

Residents will have another chance to speak out about Common Core  at the CAE School Board candidates forum -- on Monday, October 6 at LaGrange High School. They're also encouraged to attend the Calcasieu Parish School Board meeting on Tuesday, October 7th.
