I know it's hard for most of us to conceive of someone so low as to try and make a quick buck off a tragedy like the one that occurred in Lafayette last week, but believe me, those kinds of people are out there.

So far, there have been no scams reported regarding the incident, but the Louisiana Attorneys General warns that there may be people poised to try and cash in on the tragedy. While there are usually legitimate fundraising events that follow such an event, there are also the scum sucking low-life's that love to prey on people's feelings and generosity.

The AG's office advise is to be diligent before donating to any such fundraiser. It never hurts to doing just a bit of research and find out about the people behind the fundraiser and just how much of the money collected will actually go to the families of the victims.  Also, use a credit card or check that way you can cancel the payment if you need to.
