Join the City of Lake Charles and Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful – Team Green, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Louisiana Beautiful, in keeping up the beauty of our city with the 2019 Spring Adopt-A-Spot Pick-up Day on Saturday, March 9, at 8 a.m. "until each area has been cleaned".

According to a media release, Adopt-a-Spot allows "individuals, neighborhood groups, civic organizations, school organizations, and businesses" to play an "active and ongoing role in cleaning, greening and beautifying parks, shorelines, storm drains, streets, trails, and other public spaces". More than fifty sites have been adopted by volunteers around Lake Charles for "pick-up" days. The program is planned twice a year, the last time being back in October 2018.

“With the help of hard-working volunteers, we can clean up all of Lake Charles in one morning,” said Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter. “Adopt-A-Spot not only helps beautify our city, but it also helps bring together the entire community—including corporate teams, school organizations, and local businesses—to take pride in our public spaces and parks and create a sense of community.”

There are signs around town showing which volunteer groups own each adopted spot. "Volunteers are also provided with garbage bags, safety vests, and litter grabbers."

Anyone interested in volunteering to adopt a spot, rather as an individual, group, or organization can contact Rebecca Thibodeaux at rebecca.thibodeaux@cityoflc.us or call 491.1481.
