Usually when you think of the term "illegal cargo", you might think of some muling drugs, or possibly a coyote driving a passenger van with 50 illegal immigrants jammed inside...but, that's not the case in this story.

In fact, the "illegal cargo" in this story is something we enjoy as a delicacy here in SWLA...crawfish!

It appears that a truck was stop in Michigan carrying 2,000 pounds of live, illegal red swamp crawfish.  According to the Michigan Dept. Of Natural Resources this is their largest aquatic invasive species seizure to date.

Now, I know what you're thinking...HOW IN THE WORLD COULD CRAWFISH BE ILLEGAL IN MICHIGAN?

Well, for some ungodly reason red swamp crawfish are illegal in both Michigan and Canada. Because they say, and that these species burrow and create shoreline erosion. They also compete with their native crawfish for food and habitat.

Seems to me if Michigan and Canadian crawfish weren't so soft we wouldn't have a problem...fight for what's yours son!

Anyways, the truck was trying to gain access to Canada when U.S. custom officials turned the truck away and alerted Michigan law enforcement.

I do know however, where they can deliver those 55 bags of crawfish to be properly disposed of...my house!
