The first medical marijuana clinic in SWLA has opened its doors for business.

The founder of the Total Health Clinic in Lake Charles, Dr. Chad Rossitter, told KPLC:

A lot of patients we see, they come here on multiple opioids, they have been to therapy, they’ve been to surgery, they’ve been through physical therapy, tried every over-the-counter...they have exhausted every option they have. So they are just so excited to come and be evaluated for the possibility to be approved for medical marijuana. - Dr. Rossitter

Louisiana has deemed only 15 conditions or illnesses acceptable to be prescribed medical marijuana:

  • Cancer
  • HIV
  • AIDS
  • Cachexia
  • Seizure disorders
  • Epilepsy
  • Spasticity
  • Crohn’s disease M
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Glaucoma
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Severe muscle spasms
  • Intractable pain
  • PTSD

Even though there are no medical marijuana dispensaries in Louisiana at this time, Dr. Rossitter said he's been told that one could be available in Lake Charles by the end of this year.

State funded studies have found that medical marijuana will be able to help around 100,000 people across Louisiana.
